SCHE Robotics Team Recruiting for Bulldog BEST Event

Bulldog BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) is an annual contest that exposes high school students to the concepts of engineering and technology. It’s a team effort of building and operating a remote-controlled machine.

Starting from a box of raw materials, teams of middle and high school students are given six weeks to design, build and then demonstrate a remote-controlled machine that will perform a given task. No other materials can be used.

The design and build process involves brainstoming and ingenuity. The contest fosters critical thinking, hands-on participation and teamwork.

The intent of the BEST program is to get kids motivated for studies and careers in engineering, science and technology and introduce them to some of the engineering/scientific methods through mentoring by industry professionals and actual hands-on experience. Real-world engineering is demonstrated while providing an exciting and fun sports-like competition. Winners advance to the South’s BEST regional competition held at Auburn University.

SCHE had one of 3 winning teams from the state of Mississippi in 2008 and were able to compete on a regional level at Auburn. If you are interested in being a part of the SCHE Robotics Team, contact Michael Lane — use the Contact Us form and we’ll pass it on.

New Homeschoolers Workshop

The New Homeschoolers Workshop date has been changed to Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church (1553 Horseshoe Circle, Starkville, MS — see map).

If you know of anyone who is new, or new in the last couple of years, to home schooling, or to SCHE, please invite and encourage them to attend this meeting. This will give them a good beginning foundation for their homeschool and an introduction to SCHE and all the activities and events we will be having. They will be free to ask questions and get extra help, if needed.

Childcare will be provided by several of our high school age homeschool girls.  Also, there will be refreshments to enjoy.

SCHE 2009-2010 Kick-Off Event Announcements & Forms

The SCHE Board would like to invite everyone to our ‘09-’10 kick-off event. Some families have already begun their school year and some are gathering their materials in anticipation. We are excited and are looking forward to a great year and hope that you are also.

Training and educating our children is both a blessing and a responsibility. As the board has looked over activities for the new year we have felt a need to encourage each other to focus on a goal of equipping our students with God’s Truth, enabling them to know and fulfill God’s purpose in and through their lives. Knowing God’s truth brings about a transformation in character and the ability to discern and apply truth in the world (Romans 12:1, 2).

God has entrusted parents with the responsibility of education (Deuteronomy 6:4-7). We pray that each of us, as parents, would see the need to immerse our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, helping them to steadily grow in wisdom, and in stature and in favor with God and man (Ephesians 6:4; Luke 2:52). Also, that our young people would be academically equipped to do whatever God has prepared for them to do to accomplish His purpose in His kingdom (Ephesians 2:10). We pray that as parents and educators God would help us to fulfill this process spiritually, academically and socially.

SCHE Board Members: Mike and Rachel Allen, Sammy and Jo Lynn Burns, David and Marilyn Easley, Tom and Carrie Jackson, Keith and Sheila Jeffries
